KTM DUKE 250 VS YAMAHA FZ 25: IN DETAIL COMPARISON

The Indian market of 250cc segment motorcycles are heated up by two giant two-wheeler manufacturers Yamaha and KTM. Yamaha India recently launched its FZ 25 while KTM India  launched its DUKE 250. This article is an In-detail comparison between these street-fighters so, if you are looking to buy one of these, read this article completely so that you will choose right one for you.

DESIGN

Design: KTM DUKE 250

Design: Yamaha FZ 25

In terms of looks, both the street-fighters looks aggressive and beautiful enough to grab anyone's attention. The KTM Duke 250 is based on cutting-edged design while the Yamaha FZ 25 has curved body design. Both the bikes are inspired by their elder siblings, KTM Duke 250 is inspired by 1290 Super Duke R while Yamaha's FZ 25 is inspired by MT series design language. The Headlight of the KTM Duke 250 is sharp&large and looks aggressive and it is equipped with Halogen and carries a day time running bull horn styled LED light while the Headlight of FZ 25 is based on MT style and it has smaller headlight as compared to headlight of Duke 250. Yamaha FZ 25 comes with LED  high and low beam instead of Halogen and it produces better light than the Halogen unit. Both the street fighter comes with All-time Headlight On (AHO) feature. However, the small headlight and the side-mounted exhaust of Yamaha FZ 25 doesn't suits overall body design, while the new side-mounted exhaust of KTM Duke 250 which is inspired by the all new KTM Duke 390 looks much pretty on the overall styling of the body design.

ENGINE&PERFORMANCE

KTM Duke 250 is powered by 248.8cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke liquid cooled and fuel-injected engine which produces 29.60 bhp of power at 9,000 rpm and 24 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. It uses 6-speed manual gearbox with slipper clutch.

On the other hand, the Yamaha FZ 25 is powered by 249cc single-cylinder, 4 stroke air cooled and fuel-injected engine which produces 20.9 bhp of power at 8,000 rpm and 20.0 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. It uses 5-speed manual gearbox with wet, multiple disc clutch.

Here, the engine of KTM Duke 250 produces more power and torque compared to Yamaha FZ 25, but there is still a question on KTM's engine refinement while Yamaha's engine is more smoother and refined. FZ 25 produces good amount of power at lower end while Duke 250 performs excellent on higher revs.

The all new KTM Duke 250 presents 0-60 km/h in 3.44 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 8.64 seconds while surprisingly, Yamaha FZ 25 comes out to be faster in lower-end it reaches 0-60 km/h in 3.37 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 8.58 seconds. However on higher revs KTM Duke 250 reaches to the top speed of 137.7 km/h which is marginally better while Yamaha FZ 25 reaches to the top speed of 134 km/h. The values are V-Box tested by a YouTube Channel PowerDrift.
